Description
The railway under bridge, built around 1838-1840 by engineer Captain William Scarth Morsom with assistance from Herbert Spencer for the Birmingham & Gloucester Railway Company, features coursed rock-faced local sandstone. This double-span viaduct allows a small stream to pass beneath the Lickey Incline. It has two semi-circular arched spans made of carefully constructed stonework that rises from dressed springing stones. The intrados remains unaltered, and on both the north-west and south-east sides, there are opposing wing walls with terminal piers topped with late 20th-century coping. In the 20th century, light steel safety rails were added to create a parapet.
