Description
Trinity Methodist Memorial Church is a Methodist church built in 1882 by John Cotton of Bromsgrove, with extensions added in 1901. The church is constructed of brick, faced in grey and red sandstone, with freestone and red brick dressings, and features clay plain tile roofs with gabled ends. The layout includes a nave, chancel, and a tower on the north side. In 1901, north and south transepts were added, along with a large vestry located at the angle of the south transept and the chapel.
The exterior showcases lancet windows with brick hoodmoulds that continue as a stringcourse, as well as 2-light transept lancets with an oval window above and a buttress between the west lancets. The east side features a 2-light window with plate-tracery. The octagonal tower, positioned at the angle with the north transept, includes shield reliefs in the top stage and an octagonal open timber belfry topped with a short shingled spire. A late 19th-century glazed timber porch is located on the north side.
Inside, the church has white-painted brick walls and features 2-bay arcades leading to the transepts, along with a moulded 2-centred chancel arch. The nave roof consists of five bays with arch-braced trusses and pierced arcading above the collars, while the chancel roof has collar rafters and moulded ribs in the sanctuary. Notable interior elements include a wrought-iron altar rail, a polygonal panelled pulpit, and an octagonal font on a moulded stem. The original benches have shaped ends, and the chancel is adorned with encaustic tiles. Stained glass windows commemorate the Taylor family, and wall paintings depicting New Testament scenes, created by Bernard Sleigh in 1913, are located in the chancel and sanctuary.
