Description
The railway bridge over the Wyrley and Essington Canal, built around 1856, features cast iron construction with Staffordshire blue engineering brick abutments and a sandstone pad. It has a solid panel iron parapet adorned with an interlaced arch pattern in relief, which is cast in panels. The bridge also includes moulded iron parapet coping and stone-capped brick pilasters. The design of the parapet is identical to that of two aqueducts that carry the Wyrley and Essington Canal over the South Staffordshire Railway, both of which were also constructed in 1856 by Lloyds Foster and Co. of Wednesbury.
