Description

The James Bridge Aqueduct, built in 1797, carries the Walsall Canal over Bentley Mill Lane and formerly over the River Tame. It is constructed of brick with sandstone keystones and features two round arches with abutments that are curved in plan. The south side has been partly rebuilt in 19th-century brick. There is a string course below the parapet. Attached to the central pier on the south side is a cast iron plate inscribed with "MDCCXCVII".
