Description
Chester House is a carefully restored timber-framed house located on the north-east side of Warwick Road in Knowle, Solihull. The building consists of three parts: the north wing, which was originally a separate hall house built around 1500; the south wing, another separate house of two storeys built around 1400; and a central hall that belonged to the south house, which was rebuilt around 1600 when both houses were combined into a single dwelling. The house features a tiled roof with gables at either end and stands two storeys high, with the first floor oversailing and supported by a central moulded beam. It has three and four light casement windows with wooden mullions. The chimneystack, rebuilt around 1600, is made of stone below and red brick above, with four diagonally set shafts. The property also includes extensive back wings.
