Description
The Ruin in Solihull is a structure believed to date from the 14th century, likely part of a historic rectory associated with the Church of St Alphege.
The building is primarily L-shaped and constructed from red sandstone, featuring both coursed and random rubble, along with some ashlar. There are brick repairs from the 17th and 18th centuries and later.
Currently, the remains consist of two sections of wall that form the south and west walls of a former room. The south wall includes a large fireplace with a steel lintel and brickwork above. The back of the fireplace is made of a mix of stone and brick and extends outward from the wall line. Next to the fireplace is a door with a pointed arch surround; the northern face of the door is chamfered, while the southern side is splayed.
The west wall is blank and features a significant area of brick repair. It has large quoins at the northern end and a small remaining projection of the former north wall, which contains a small window with a chamfered surround and a large internal splay. Parts of the east wall may still exist beneath the undergrowth.
