Description
The gates, piers, and railings at the principal entrance of Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge were built around 1930. They feature fine ashlar piers with wrought-iron gates and railings designed in the Neo-Georgian style. The structure includes four large piers with intricately moulded plinths, panels, and cornices, each topped with elaborate metal lantern finials. Between the piers are wrought-iron double and single gates adorned with very detailed standards and overthrows. Flanking the entrance are two curved quadrant walls with tall spear-head railings that conclude with smaller piers that reflect the design of the main ones. The park and these gates were gifted to the town by Ernest Stevens, an industrialist and significant benefactor of Stourbridge, in memory of his wife in 1929. There are inscription plaques on both sides of the central piers.
