Description
Stourbridge Canal Lock Number 9 is a lock built in the late 18th century. It features a brick-lined chamber with stone copings. The lock has a wooden single top gate, which includes a pair of ground paddles and a single gate paddle. The double bottom gates are equipped with gate paddles, and there are wooden balance beams. The lock quadrants are grassed, and it has brick wing walls with a cast iron cantilevered tail bridge. This lock originally formed a staircase with Lock 10, but the addition of a top gate to Lock 10 has created two locks separated by a short pound. Nevertheless, it still effectively operates as a staircase.
