Description
Nos 14 and 16 Regent Parade form a pair of houses dating from approximately 1825 to 1830, built on a corner plot within an early jewellery quarter. The houses are constructed of red brick, with the corner section featuring an inset one-bay bow. They have low-pitched slate roofs with eaves bands and corniced chimney stacks.
No 14 faces west and has one window on each floor, a doorway to the left, and one window on each floor to the bowed corner. It features revealed glazing bar sashes with stone sills, set within rubbed brick, gauged flat arches. The doorway has a rubbed brick vermicular arch containing a flattened oval surround to the panelled reveals and soffit. The door itself is panelled and has a radial glazed fanlight. A lower one-bay wing containing retail space is situated to the right.
No 16 faces north and has a stone plinth and three bays, with the centre bay being blind above the doorway. It also has revealed glazing bar sashes with painted stone sills and rubbed brick arches. The doorway is similar to that of No 14, retaining a simple capital moulding to the flattened oval surround, which returns from the doorhead across the reveals. A lower, two-storey, four-bay workshop wing adjoins the left side of No 16, with moulded beds to the flat eaves. This wing has glazing bar sashes to the first floor, a segmented arched doorway, and a waggon archway on the ground floor.
