Description

The building at 2 Cartland Road is a late 19th-century vicarage, dating to around 1895 and designed by C.E. Bateman. It is illustrated in “Das Englische Haus” by H. Muthesius and "The Builder" in 1896. Constructed of red brick with stone dressings and a tile roof, the house is two storeys high with an attic.

The main facade features a projecting bay window to the left, with a tiled roof and a two-light window, topped by a prominent chimney stack. To the right of this are a four-light and a five-light window, a doorway, and then two more four-light windows and a small window above. The roof includes three dormer windows; two have hipped tiled roofs, and one has a pediment. A further advanced and gabled bay features two four-light windows and a small window in the gable.

The left return includes the entrance to the adjoining property at No. 2 Cartland Road, featuring a broad gabled bay with a door sheltered by a tiled canopy, a three-light window below, a four-light window on the first floor, and a three-light window in the gable. All windows, apart from the dormer casements, are mullioned and have leaded lights.
