Description
A collegiate building dated 1847-52, originally designed by Benjamin Ferrey in a simplified Tudor style. The building is constructed of rock-faced ironstone with sandstone dressings, and has a tiled roof. It is arranged in a half-H shape around a central quadrangle.
The front elevation, facing the road, is two storeys plus an attic, with five bays. The central bay features an oriel window above an entrance arch, and the outer bays are gabled. The ground floor has windows arranged in couples or triplets, each with cusped arched lights, and buttresses. The first floor predominantly has single cusped arched windows, although the outer bays have a pair each. Gabled stone dormer windows are found in the attic.
Later additions are present on both sides. The addition to the right is in a similar Tudor style, while the addition on the left connects to the now disused chapel, which is in a round arched style, dating from 1912-13 and designed by J L Ball.
