Description
Nos 60 to 70 on Regent Place in Hockley, built around 1850, are purpose-built works that include offices and display rooms. The main block features three tall storeys made of painted brick with stucco decorations, while a lower three-storey wing follows the curve of the street. The main block is characterized by channelled quoin pilasters, sill bands on the first and second floors, a prominent cornice, and a low parapet. It has a close set of window bays arranged in a 1:7:1 pattern. The ground floor windows are framed by shallow, steep frames that curve down to include panelled risers beneath the sills, with plain consoles above supporting block cornices. The first-floor windows are in similar surrounds, rising from the sill band and featuring moulded cornices, with the end windows topped by segmental pediments. The second-floor windows have eaved architraves. Most of the sash windows retain their glazing bars. The curved wing has a first-floor sill band that curves over from the main block, and the building has shallow flat eaves beneath a slate roof, with a range of camber arched glazing bar sashes. There are some later openings on the ground floor.
