Description
No. 18 Dora Road is a Grade II listed building, dated 1899, originally built as the vicarage for St Oswald's Church, designed by architect W H Bidlake. This building showcases a good example of restrained Arts and Crafts design, typical of Bidlake's domestic architecture. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, constructed from red brick with stone dressings. A shallow flat band runs over the ground floor, and the design is characterized by a prominent hipped tiled roof with deep flat eaves supported by wrought iron brackets, along with a steep pyramid hip over the right-hand section of the front. There are small flat-roofed leaded dormers and a tall, panelled chimney stack to the right that features subtle detailing. The windows are flush stone mullioned, with transoms on the ground floor, where the inner window butts against the stone door frame in the corner. The right break of the building includes a large canted bay window on the ground floor, also with a hipped tile roof. The windows feature leaded iron casements. The interior is restrained, with simple mouldings and door furniture.
