Description
Nos 71 and 72 on Francis Road, built in 1838, are two-storey buildings, each featuring three bays. They have front pilasters on the left and right, connected by a narrow bay that has a door to the rear and a blank window above. The ground floor is stuccoed with banded rustication. The central entrance consists of a panelled and glazed door (with No 71 featuring a fanlight) beneath a pediment supported by brackets, which has decorative faces. On either side of the door, there is a single sash window within a moulded surround, set in a shallow recess with a segment-headed sash. Moulded bands run at arch level and at the first-floor sill level, with block rustication between them. The first floor has three sash windows, all within moulded surrounds, and all windows feature tripartite glazing bars. The frieze and blocking course at the top of the building are adorned with scrolls on either side of a central decorative piece.
