Description
Lunt Cottages is a house dating from the late 15th century to early 16th century. It was originally a service range that included a kitchen, butteries, and a milkhouse, with servants' chambers above, connected to a central hall range that is no longer present. The other cross-wing, known as No 1 Lunt Cottages, is located opposite. The building is timber-framed, featuring two late 15th century to early 16th century cruck trusses that have been truncated above their collars, and 17th century square timber-framing is exposed on the south-west wall. The gabled ends are faced in red brick from the 17th or 18th century. There are also two small red brick gabled wings at the rear, dating from the 18th century. The foundations are made of coursed sandstone. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with plain tiles, featuring gabled ends. A large sandstone chimney from the 16th or 17th century has two brick diagonal stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays, with 20th century casement windows that include glazing bars. A 20th century lean-to porch with a tiled roof is located on the south-west elevation.
