Description
Church House is a house dating from around the 17th century, originally timber-framed but refronted in brick during the 18th century. The east flank wall was rebuilt in brick in the 19th century, and there is a matching extension to the west also from the 19th century. The earlier part of the house on the left stands on a tall sandstone plinth, with a timber-framed rear gable wall and some internal framing. The front features twin gables made of painted brick and has steeply pitched modern plain tile roofs with gabled ends. The house is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. There are steps leading up to a 19th-century moulded wooden doorcase with a pediment and a six-panel door. On either side of the entrance are 19th-century canted bay windows with flat roofs and leaded lights. The first and attic floors have two-light casements, with leaded lights on the first floor and glazing bars in the attic. Red brick chimney stacks are present. Inside, the ground floor of the early portion features two large chamfered ceiling beams with stop ends. There is a sandstone ashlar lined half cellar, a 19th-century staircase, and doors from the 18th and 19th centuries.
