Description
Lock-keepers Cottage is located approximately 50 meters southeast of Lock 21 on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. It was built around 1816 for the canal and has a 20th-century addition. The cottage is constructed of painted brick and features an asphalt-covered brick barrel-vault roof with segmental parapeted gable ends, along with a brick ridge stack positioned to the right of the center. The building is a single storey with a three-window range, including two-light casements on the left and center, and a three-light casement with a segmental head on the right. There is a 20th-century door leading to the addition at the rear. The interior was not inspected. This cottage is one of a series of six lock-keepers cottages along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, which began construction in 1793 and was completed in 1816. The roof was built using form-work similar to that used for canal bridges.
