Description
The Pavilion at Hill Close Gardens is a detached town garden pavilion built around 1890. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof with gables at both the front and rear. The front gable has deep verges and wall-plates that project on brick corbels, topped with a terracotta finial. The building has a small square plan, with a doorway at the center of the west front, flanked by integral windows that have ramped blue brick cills. The corners of the pavilion are chamfered, and there are lancet windows in the side walls, which also have similar cills. Hill Close Gardens were established around 1846 as pleasure garden allotments, and by 1877, there were 37 garden plots laid out as detached gardens for town houses without gardens.
