Description

32-36 Henley Street is a row of five townhouses located in Stratford-upon-Avon, dating from around 1780, which involved refronting a 17th-century timber-framed structure. The houses feature a timber frame with a brick front and ashlar dressings, topped with a tiled roof that has brick stacks arranged cross-axially. The building is two storeys high and has a six-window range, with a prominent cornice decorated with modillions.

The entrances are segmental-headed, with Nos. 32 and 33 featuring 20th-century split doors, No. 34 having a plank door, and No. 35 showcasing a six-fielded-panel door. No. 36 stands out with an entrance that includes a doorcase adorned with reeded pilasters, a frieze, and an entablature, along with a four-fielded-panel and glazed-panel door. To the left end, there is an elliptical-arched carriage entrance with a triple key.

Windows are positioned to the left of the entrances; No. 35 has a segmental-headed window with a triple key above a three-light transomed casement, while others have been replaced with 20th-century canted bay windows, some of which still show partially exposed triple keys. On the first floor, Nos. 32, 34, and 35 have three-light casements, while Nos. 33 and 36 feature windows with sills and 16-pane sashes, including two windows for No. 36, one of which is situated above the carriage entrance.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century wing on the left end and a 19th-century wing on the right end, with timber-framing visible over a lean-to outshut in between. The fenestration varies, including small windows above the lean-to and older casements. The carriage entrance has timber-framing above it with a two-light casement.
