Description
The Rookery is a house that was likely converted from a barn, dating from the 16th century to early 17th century, with mid-19th century alterations and additional 19th century features at the rear. It is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone, with red brick additions. The slate roof features coped gable parapets and has brick ridge and end stacks from the 19th century. The building has a T-plan layout, with a rear wing, and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a five-window range. There are diagonal buttresses and two half-octagonal buttresses, each with two offsets. The entrance includes a moulded four-panelled door set in a moulded wood doorcase, which has pilaster strips and a simple entablature. The windows are irregularly arranged, featuring two and three-light casements with glazing bars and painted wood lintels. There are two gabled roof dormers with casements that have many glazing bars, while the rear has sash windows. Inside, there is a mid-19th century straight flight staircase with twisted balusters, a former open fireplace, and a queen strut roof.
