Description

Coughtonfields Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was refaced in the 18th or early 19th century. A brick wing was added in the mid-19th century. The building is timber-framed, with the wing constructed of brick, and has tile roofs and brick external stacks. It has a layout in the shape of an “L.” The two-storey main block has a three-window front, and the wing a one-window front. The central entrance has a plank door and a tile hood above. Most windows are casements with glazing bars, with a small 20th-century casement on the first floor of the right-hand side. The taller wing to the left has sash windows. A 19th-century stack with four square shafts is located where the main range and wing join. The left return side of the house forms the main front of the wing, with two equal gables and a recessed entrance between them. There’s a half-glazed door under a tile canopy, with a casement window directly above. Sashes are present, including a tripartite window on the ground floor and a 16-pane window on the first floor. The interior was noted to contain some exposed timber framing.
