Description
Sunrising House is a house dating from the 17th century, with additions from the 18th and 20th centuries. It is built of ironstone ashlar and coursed, squared rubble, topped with a stone slate roof and features stone ridge and end stacks. The house has two storeys and a five-window range with a complex plan.
The entrance features a plank door with a four-centred arch and hood mould, set within a 20th-century two-storey gabled porch that has a two-light mullioned window above. To the right of the porch, there is a 20th-century two-light mullioned window on both the ground and first floors. To the left of the porch, in the 20th-century staircase range, is a wooden casement window with a hood mould. A first-floor storey band runs along the porch and adjoining ranges. There is also a one-storey entrance and service range to the left.
At the rear, there is a large 18th-century range that has two storeys plus an attic. On the first floor, there is a 12-pane sash window, while the centre and left have 24-pane casements. The windows feature stone sills and lintels, with the centre window having a keyblock. The roof has two gabled dormers located in the centre and to the right. The range extending to the rear from the right includes two- and three-light stone mullioned windows, some of which have transoms and appear to be renewed or possibly new. There is also a oeil-de-boeuf window at the top right.
Inside, there are some 18th-century doors and cupboards. The house is said to have formerly been an inn and is associated with Civil War history.
