Description
The gazebo, located approximately 42 metres west of Mason Croft in Stratford-upon-Avon, is likely from the early to mid 18th century, with alterations made around 1900 for the author Marie Corelli. It is constructed of brick and features an ogival tile roof. This two-storey square structure has a platt band above the ground floor and a cornice at the top.
The south face includes an entrance to the ground floor with an arch-braced pentice over a half-glazed door, and an offset projection to the left with a narrow external stack at the corner. The west and east faces have round-headed openings; the west opening has a pegged frame and leaded glazing, while the east opening is blocked. The first floor features oriel windows arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern, set on moulded bases and topped with hipped roofs, also with leaded glazing.
On the north face, there is a blocked round-headed opening on the ground floor, and a first-floor entrance accessed by a timber staircase, which is covered by a hipped canopy and has a rubbed brick flat arch over a half-glazed door.
Inside, the ground floor includes a corner fireplace adorned with Delft tiles, while the first floor features 18th-century panelling with a cornice, another corner fireplace with Delft tiles and an overmantel, a recess with shelves, and a bolection-moulded door. There is also fixed furniture from around 1900, including a desk used by Marie Corelli.
