Description

This is a pair of houses, numbers 19 and 20 Church Street, located in Stratford-upon-Avon. They were built in 1831, and one has subsequently been converted into a shop. The buildings are constructed of brick with a plastered front, and have a slate roof with brick stacks positioned at both ends and in the centre.

The design is in the Georgian style, with two storeys and a four-window facade. A decorative band runs across the top of the ground floor. The first floor is divided into four bays by Ionic pilasters, topped by an entablature and a panelled parapet. The left-hand building has a carriage entry above which is a key feature. The entrance to the right has an overlight above a three-panel door, whilst the right-hand building features an entrance with a half-glazed door and another with a three-panel door, flanking a late 19th-century shop front with a bay window. A sill and 12-pane sash window is found to the left of the centre, and similar sash windows are on the first floor. Several windows on the first floor have cast iron window boxes. There are four flat-roofed dormers in the roof. The rear of the property includes an outshut with a catslide roof and a variety of later additions.
