Description
Nos. 9, 10, and 11 Guild Street are a terrace of three townhouses built around 1840. The houses are constructed of brick with buff headers and feature stucco dressings. They have a hipped slate roof with two brick chimneys positioned along the ridge. Designed in a Georgian style, the terrace stands three storeys high and consists of an eight-window range, with the left house having two windows and the other two houses each having three windows arranged symmetrically.
The wide eaves soffit adds to the architectural detail. Each central entrance is framed by aedicules, fluted Composite pilasters, and a Greek key design on the entablatures. The entrances are topped with overlights that include margin lights, leading to two- and three-fielded-panel doors. To the right of the entrance to No. 9, there is an elliptical-headed carriage entrance. The windows are fitted with sills and rusticated wedge lintels that have keys above the 12-pane sash windows. A 20th-century rear wing has been added to the property. This terrace was built on land sold by the trustees of Tyler's Charity in 1840.
