Description
5 and 6 St Matthews Street are early to mid 19th century buildings, likely dating from around 1842. They are constructed of yellow brick and feature a Welsh slated roof with an eaves cornice. The buildings rise three storeys and have plain brick pilasters at the centre and on the left. Each has two sash windows with glazing bars set beneath stucco flat arches, with keyblocks above the second-floor windows. The first-floor windows are three-light and have wrought iron balconettes. Number 5 includes a round arched passageway on the right, along with a 19th-century shop front that has glazing bars, Doric pilasters, and an entablature. Number 6 features a small modern shop window and retains its original door surround, which is adorned with Doric pilasters beneath a pediment.
