Description

The Stone House is a late 17th and early 18th century house, with alterations from the early to mid-19th century and a later addition to the right. The main part of the house is built of regular coursed ironstone, while the right-hand range is of squared coursed ironstone. It has slate roofs and brick ridge stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with the original 17th-century section forming a two-storey and attic cross wing to the left. The two-storey right-hand range is alongside. The front has a three-window facade. A late 20th-century half-glazed door is in the angle of the wings, with a fixed light window above. Late 20th-century casement windows of three lights to the right, and two lights to a lean-to on the right, have glazing bars and concrete lintels. The cross wing has 19th and 20th-century casement windows. On the ground floor, it has a two-light casement with a concrete lintel, and above, a three-light casement in an enlarged opening with a wood lintel inserted below the remains of a moulded stone label. There's also a two-light attic casement. The return sides and rear feature recessed chamfered stone mullioned windows with moulded stone labels. The left return side has two two-light ground floor windows and a three-light first floor window with a hood mould on the right. The right return side has a three-light ground floor window. The rear of the house has three-light windows, one of which is a 19th-century casement. The right range has 20th-century windows and a dormer. The interior features chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops, an open fireplace with a moulded bressumer, and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
