Description
Lower Metlins is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th or early 19th century. It features a timber-frame structure with red brick infill, which is cased in red brick at the front and sits on a sandstone plinth. The roof is plain-tiled and includes a ridge stack made of red brick. The building is arranged in an L-plan and consists of a two-storey main range. On the first floor, there are two flush frame casement windows from the 20th century, and on the ground floor, there are two more windows on either side of a doorway that has a moulded wood architrave. The door is from the late 20th century. The gable end and rear walls display exposed framing. The service range is also framed and has a casing of red brick that is colourwashed, with one storey and an attic. The rear wall has exposed framing as well. Inside, there are two inglenook hearths, and the parlour features a corner fireplace that abuts one of the inglenooks.
