Description

The garden wall, gatepiers, and pavilion located approximately 50 meters northwest of Middleton Hall date back to the 18th century. Constructed from red brick with sandstone piers and coping, the wall encloses three sides of a garden and the southwest side of a stable yard situated immediately to the southeast. The pavilion, found in the northeast corner of the garden, is square and was originally two storeys tall, featuring a pyramidal plain tile roof and a brick corner stack. Each of the two external faces has a blind round-headed recess. The doorway, located on the southeast face facing the garden, has a segmental head, with a segmental-headed window to its left. All windows are late 20th century replacements within 18th-century openings. There are two gateways on the southwest side: one leads to the garden and the other to the stable yard. The stonework of both gateways is heavily weathered; the stable yard entrance is blocked but retains a round arch with hood mould and a pair of rusticated gatepiers with prominently projecting caps, while the garden entrance still has a pair of piers.
