Description
The ruins of Dieu-la-Cres Abbey date back to the 13th century and are located on Abbey Green Road in Leek. The remains consist of coursed and squared stone, featuring the clustered shaft bases of three choir piers and a section of wall, which is likely the northern wall of the sanctuary. Many of the stones and sculptures from the abbey have been repurposed in the farm buildings of Dieu-la-Cres Abbey Farm. Historically, Dieu-la-Cres Abbey was established for the Cistercians of Poulton around 1215 and is recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
