Description
The balustrading, steps, piers, and gates located to the south of the Orangery, approximately 200 meters northeast of Heath House, were created around 1830 by James Trubshaw. Made of stone, the balustrading and low retaining wall surround a rectangular sunken garden. The walls are divided into bays by piers topped with urns. The balustrading features round arches at both the top and bottom. Steps are positioned at the south end, with a pair facing each other at the north end. A semicircular wall leads to the entrance, which is aligned with the south steps and the Orangery. This entrance includes cast iron decorative piers, urns, poppyhead rails, and gates. The formal garden, characterized by box hedges, enhances the setting for the Orangery. An original drawing of the layout has been preserved, showing it largely as executed, except for the semicircular entrance bay, which originally suggested a large triumphal arch that was ultimately not built.
