Description
The gates and gate piers at the entrance to Mill Meece Pumping Station, now a museum, were built around 1914 for the Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Company. The gates are made of cast iron and are mounted on brick piers.
The exterior features a pair of cast-iron gates with vertical bars and a stepped geometric design above the top rail. The left-hand gate has applied lettering that reads ‘STAFFORDSHIRE / WATER’, while the right-hand gate displays ‘POTTERIES / BOARD’. When the gates are closed, the lettering combines to read ‘STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERIES WATER BOARD’.
