Description
The weigh house and weighbridge at Mill Meece Pumping Station were built around 1914 for the Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Company. Designed by William Campbell and constructed by Thomas Godwin and Son, the building is made of Accrington red brick in English bond, featuring stone dressings and a clay-tiled roof.
This single-storey structure has a rectangular plan, with its main elevation facing north-west and containing a single window. The right-hand side has a doorway with a panelled door, while the other sides are blind. The windows are six-paned casements with chamfered stone lintels, and both the window and door openings are round-headed, topped with gauged brick arches that include keystones.
Inside, the weigh house still has its original weighing machine from 1914, made by Henry Pooley and Sons of Birmingham and London. In front of the north-west face, there is an iron weighbridge, also dated 1914, which was manufactured and installed by Henry Pooley and Sons.
