Description

Weigh house and weighbridge at water pumping station, built circa 1914 for the Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Company. Designed by William Campbell and constructed by Thomas Godwin and Son.

MATERIALS: of Accrington red brick in English bond with stone dressings and a clay-tiled roof.

PLAN: it is a single-storey building with a rectangular plan.

EXTERIOR: the building’s principal elevation faces north-west and contains a single window. The right-hand return has a doorway with a panelled door whilst the remaining elevations are blind. Windows are six-paned casements with chamfered stone lintels whilst the window and door openings are round-headed with gauged brick arches with keystones.

INTERIOR: the weigh house retains its original weighing machine of 1914, by Henry Pooley and Sons of Birmingham and London.

WEIGHBRIDGE: an iron weighbridge, dated 1914, is set within the ground in front of the north-west face. It was manufactured and installed by Henry Pooley and Sons of Birmingham and London.
