Description
Home Farmhouse is a circa 1820 farmhouse built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. It has a slate roof with lead rolls at the hips and ridge, overhanging eaves, and a shallow stucco frieze. A brick axial stack is centrally located. The plan is double-depth and almost square, with two principal front rooms facing west, offices overlooking the farmyard to the rear, and lower, single-depth service wings flanking the main house to the left and right.
The symmetrical west front has three windows. Large 24-pane sashes are on the ground floor, and 12-pane sashes are on the first floor, with the central window slightly narrower. All window heads are stuccoed. The central doorway features a pilastered doorcase with an open-bed pediment, a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and a 6-panel door. Small 20th-century windows are located on either side of the doorway. The service wings are set back with lower hipped roofs; the right wing has one ground floor window, and the left wing has 20th-century casements. The rear, east side, has three windows, with the centre blocked, and 3-light casements in segmental arched openings. The interior has not been inspected. Home Farmhouse is part of the planned group of buildings at Home Farm, and it serves as the farmhouse for the farm buildings located there.
