Description
The Church of St Mary in Ingestre was rebuilt in 1676, likely by Sir Christopher Wren, and is a notable example of his work. The church has generally been well-preserved, especially during the Victorian era, and many of its fittings remain original. The exterior is faced with ashlar stone. Inside, the nave features aisles and arcades supported by Doric columns on tall square bases. There is an impressive screen and a richly carved pulpit with a tester. The church also contains several fine mural tablets from the late 17th century and 19th century, as well as a marble font of pedestal type with a contemporary cover.
