Description
Former St Mary's Home and attached wall, built around 1830, is a house with a garden wall. The building is made of stucco and features a hipped slate roof with two brick stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a four-window range. The wide eaves are decorated with modillions.
To the left of the center, there is an elliptical-headed entrance with a porch supported by Doric columns and an Ionic entablature. Above the paired three-panel doors, there is a fanlight with radial glazing bars. The windows are primarily 12-pane sashes, although the right end window on the first floor has a 4-pane sash.
On the right side of the building, the garden front is symmetrical with a three-window range. The entrance here features a porch with elliptical arches on Doric columns and a cornice above, along with an elliptical shell fan over paired half-glazed doors. The windows on this side vary, including some sashes and one top-hung casement.
The attached wall extends approximately 33.5 meters to the right, constructed of brick with an ashlar plinth and chamfered coping. This building was formerly part of the St Mary's Roman Catholic Home.
