Description
A mid-19th century cottage, extended around 1983. The cottage is constructed of red brick with a decorative pattern of red stretchers and buff headers on the front elevation, and features a dentilled brick eaves-cornice, replicated on the 1983 extension. The roof is covered in Staffordshire blue tiles, and there are red-brick stacks at the ends of the original cottage, one now axial.
The cottage is two storeys and rectangular in plan, with the main entrance slightly off-centre. There is a further entrance on the south elevation leading into the extension. The front elevation has three bays, with sash windows to the ground and first floors. Sliding top-lights are present in the extension windows and one bathroom window, which are 1983 additions. The other three sash windows on the front are believed to be mid-19th century. A timber doorcase is present around the panelled front door, possibly added in 1983. The south elevation is largely blind, with just an entrance door. The west elevation historically had no windows, but two first-floor windows were inserted during the 1980s improvements, matching the style of those on the extension. All windows have stone wedge lintels and projecting cills; the 1980s windows have concrete cills. The north elevation is blind, with a mid-19th century fixed casement window at ground-floor level.
Inside, the cottage is entered into a parlour, which has a modern fire surround on the north wall. The staircase is located to the rear of the parlour, behind what would historically have been the kitchen. This kitchen room has a small fireplace arch. The staircase appears to retain its original position, although all interior joinery is from the 1980s. The landing leads to a bedroom to the north and a bathroom at the front, which was created in 1983 from what was formerly the second bedroom. The extension contains a kitchen on the ground floor and a bedroom above.
