Description
The building is a former surgery, now converted into flats, located at No. 1 The Green in Stafford. It dates from around 1840 and is constructed of brick with stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof and a brick end stack. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, featuring a symmetrical three-window range.
The façade includes a stucco plinth and quoins, along with a top frieze and cornice. The ground floor has windows with sills and architraves; the outer windows are adorned with consoled cornices and feature two-pane horned sashes. The first floor has two widely spaced similar windows with cornices, while the third floor has architraved windows, including a central nine-pane casement and two nine-pane sashes.
On the side, there is a rendered return that features a c1870 open timber gabled porch with a tiled roof, leading to an entrance with a plain doorcase and a panelled door. The rear of the building is also rendered and includes an embattled parapet, along with a similar attached curved wall that screens the rear garden.
