Description
Churchyard Cottage is a cottage from the early to mid 19th century, built of red brick with a clay plain tile roof featuring gabled ends and brick dentil eaves. It has brick axial and gable-end stacks. The layout consists of a two-room plan, with a parlour on the right and a kitchen on the left, heated by a central axial stack that forms an entrance lobby. There is a pantry and winder stairs located behind the kitchen.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a two-window front facing southwest. It features 19th-century two-light wooden windows with iron casements and glazing bars. The doorway is centrally located and has a plank door with cover-moulds. The ground floor openings have cambered arches, with the left ground floor opening being blind. There is a similar casement window on the left end of the cottage. A later 19th-century outshut is present at the right end. The rear wall is mostly blind, except for a small pantry window on the ground floor.
Inside, the 19th-century joinery remains intact. The kitchen fireplace has a brick arch and an iron range. Churchyard Cottage forms a group with the nearby Church of St John the Baptist.
