Description
The George and Dragon Inn is an early 19th-century building located on Castle Street in Eccleshall. The inn features a brick front that has been roughcast, concealing an earlier timber-framed structure that is visible inside. It stands three storeys tall and includes three sash windows. The entrance has a plain wood doorcase set within a stuccoed surround, and there are two moulded wood canted bay windows with renewed sashes. An oval stone tablet on the second storey displays the initials F.F. and the date 1818. The building has toothed eaves and is roofed with tiles. The right-hand portion of the inn, also from the early 19th century, has three sash windows and a moulded wood doorcase with a segmental fanlight and an open pediment. To the right, there is a later 19th-century shop front featuring modern glazing. Inside, the front portion of the ground storey reveals exposed ceiling beams, and there is an exposed timber-framed partition to the right of the entrance.
