Description
The outbuildings to the southwest of Shugborough Hall date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick with slate roofs and brick stacks. The former stables are arranged around a courtyard and feature a two-storey wing on the east side. This wing has a central porte cochere with a pediment that encloses a clock, which is topped by a lantern and wind vane. The building includes sash windows and Venetian windows at the ends set within arched recesses. To the left, there is a similar two-storey block with a sedimented porte cochere that has an arched window (which is blocked below) within a Doric aedicule. Currently, these outbuildings house the Museum of Staffordshire Life.
