Description

Aspley Farmhouse is an early 16th-century manor house, later used as a farmhouse, with significant rebuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber framed, although the outer walls were reconstructed in brick, and has a clay tile roof with brick stacks. The building follows an H-shaped plan, featuring a central open hall which has been floored over, flanked by two cross wings. It is two storeys high, with a 1:3:1 window arrangement. Projecting gables with decorative fretted bargeboards are present on both the left and right sides. A large, 19th-century angled bay window is situated on the ground floor of the left-hand wing, featuring plate glass sashes on the sides and 20th-century casements to the front. All other windows are glazing bar casements. A panelled door is located on the right-hand side, in the angle between the hall range and the right-hand cross wing. Inside, original exposed beams and timber framing are visible, alongside a late 17th-century staircase and an inglenook fireplace.
