Description

Ye Olde White Harte is an inn that underwent remodelling in the 17th century, originally being an earlier house that may date back to medieval times, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick, painted white on the front and partly rendered, with a plain tile roof featuring raised verges and brick ridge stacks. It has an L-shaped plan, with the main range oriented north-west to south-east facing north-east, and a rear wing to the south-east aligned north-east to south-west.

The inn is two storeys high and features a first-floor band. The façade has three gabled bays on the left, with the three main bays each containing two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor, all of which are 19th-century casements with segmental heads. The slightly lower right-hand projecting gable has one segmental-headed casement on each floor. There is a roughly central door that is topped with a concave semi-circular hood supported by brackets. On the right-hand gable end, there is an exposed roof truss with a single vertical strut between the tie beam and collar, which likely dates back to the 15th century.
