Description
Memorial Hall, which includes a caretaker's cottage, was built in 1903 and has undergone minor alterations in the 20th century. Designed by architect William J.H. Weller from Wolverhampton for the 6th Earl of Dartmouth, it serves as a memorial to his parents. The building is in the Vernacular Revival style, constructed of red brick with timber framing in the gables, and features a plain-tiled roof with ridge stacks and a louvred ventilation cupola.
The structure has a linear plan, consisting of a tall, single-storey hall with a gallery at the entrance end, and two-storey caretaker's accommodation on the east side. The entrance elevation showcases a wide timber-framed gable above a tall canted bay window that has mullions and transoms. To the right, beneath a leaded canopy extension to the roof, are double doors flanked by single light windows. Above this, within the deep roof slope, is a flat-roofed three-light dormer.
The side elevation features coupled timber-framed gables, with a single doorway to the cottage section at the centre and flanking three-light casement windows on each floor. There is a low service bay at the rear. The west side elevation is lower and has windows that light the hall. Inside the hall, there is a lobby staircase leading to a now-blocked balcony. The hall's roof boasts a wealth of exposed timber beams supported by arched-braced roof trusses. A plaque set within the front gable commemorates the building's purpose.
