Description

The triumphal entry to the forecourt of Patshull Hall, along with the flanking screen walls, dates from around 1750 and was designed by James Gibbs. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof behind a parapet adorned with ball ornaments and brick ridge stacks. The structure is two storeys high and has four windows with glazing bar sashes, including a ground floor that has a sill band.

The central carriageway is pedimented and topped with a cupola. It features a round-headed arch with a Gibbs surround, flanked by paired Tuscan pilasters that are connected to outer angle pilasters by a moulded frieze. The pediment is surmounted by an urn, and there is a clock set within the tympanum. On either side of the arch are niches containing 17th-century demi statues of Cavaliers. The flanking screen walls of the main building have blind windows and a sill band, and they are capped by ball ornaments. This entryway was formerly included in the list entry for Patshull Hall.
