Description
The grotto, located approximately 150 meters north of the north front of Oakley Hall, is likely from the early to mid-18th century. It is carved out of natural sandstone and features ashlar facings. Access to the grotto is via a flight of steps leading down from the terrace at the north end of the garden. The structure has a wide segmental arch, flanked by pilasters and topped with a moulded cornice, which frames a deep semi-circular recess that includes a bench made from natural rock at the back. Additionally, there is a round-headed niche, also carved from natural rock, situated to the right of the steps leading up to the terrace.
