Description

Wheelwright Cottage and attached workshop is a cottage and workshop built in the 17th century and 18th century respectively, with later alterations and additions. The cottage is timber framed with plaster infill panels, while the workshop is constructed of red brick. Both structures have a plain tile roof, with a rendered ridge stack and an external end stack. The cottage features a three-bay baffle-entry plan, aligned east-west and facing south. A 20th-century extension on the western side connects the cottage to the 18th-century workshop, which is aligned north-south.

The cottage is one storey with an attic and has three square panels to the eaves supported by straight braces. The windows are arranged irregularly, including a central early 20th-century square bay window with a lean-to roof, a small window to the right, and four early to mid-20th-century gabled dormers. There is a glazed door to the left and a plank door to the left of centre in front of the stack. A 20th-century single-storey extension is located to the left, while the rear features 18th-century casement windows. Inside, the workshop retains a forge. The cottage and workshop are believed to have been occupied by a wheelwright.
