Description
The inner gate piers, gates, and railings to Okeover Hall were constructed between 1748 and 1749 for the piers, with the gates and railings likely added between 1756 and 1759. The gate piers were designed by Richard Kay, Mason and Carver, based on designs from Gibbs' Book of Architecture, specifically plates 88 and 90. The gates and railings were created by Benjamin Yates of Derby. The gate piers are made of ashlar and feature a square section with vermiculated banded corner pilasters, vermiculated bases, and moulded caps topped with garlanded urns. The central segmental headed gates have a decorative surround, and the railings extend approximately 15 yards to both the left and right of the gate piers, with the right section including subsidiary gates.
