Description

Nos. 31 and 33, Market Square, are a building of late 18th-century construction, with a core dating back to the 17th century. The building is faced in stucco and extends over two storeys plus an attic. It is arranged with three bays. The central bay is emphasised, featuring three sash windows with single glazing bars and enriched keyblocks, with the central window framed by a moulded architrave. A stuccoed Tuscan pilaster doorcase features a curved pediment and triglyphs on its frieze. The flanking bays each have three sash windows with single glazing bars and plain keyblocks. Quoins define the corners of the building. A moulded cornice runs along the top, above which is a panelled parapet. The roof is slate and of a Mansard form, pierced by two dormers. The right-hand bay has moulded eaves and two gabled dormers. The building now has a bank front on the left and a late 19th-century shop fascia on the right.
