Description
Engine Row is a range of modest cottages located on Coalbrookdale School Road, dating from the early 19th century and later. The cottages are constructed of russet brick and stand two storeys high. Most have modern wooden casement windows, although Nos 5 and 10 still feature small-paned cast-iron windows. The doorways are simple with cambered heads, typically fitted with modern doors. The eaves are adorned with modillion detailing, and the cottages have a tiled roof. To the right of No 6, there is a pentice outbuilding that includes small multi-pane semi-circular headed windows. The cottages are named after 'Resolution', a 102 horsepower steam engine that was located to the west of the cottages until around 1821, which was used to pump water to Upper Furnace Pool.
